New York Knicks’ Jalen Brunson Adds 1 Proof to Why He’s Better than Carmelo Anthony
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Jalen Brunson continues to build his case as one of the greatest players in New York Knicks history. He added more to that with another scintillating performance in Game 5 of their second-round series against the Indiana Pacers at home Tuesday night.

Brunson went off for 44 points on 18/35 shooting from the field and also added seven assists and four rebounds in a 121-91 win at Madison Square Garden. He has been an unsolvable problem for the Pacers, who are now on the brink of elimination.

Brunson went down to work early in Game 5, as he dropped 28 points in the first half. It’s his seventh such half in this postseason alone, an incredible feat that becomes even more admirable when juxtaposed with former Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony’s number of such halves during his time wearing New York colors.

Jalen Brunson has more 20-point playoff halves just this year (7) than Melo ever had in the playoffs as a Knick (6).

New York Knicks’ Jalen Brunson Has Been Too Much for the Indiana Pacers

Brunson is not losing focus on the main goal in the series even after such a huge win. With just a win to go before clinching a berth in the Eastern Conference Finals, Brunson showed how determined he remains in helping New York.

Via the Associated Press (h/t ESPN):

“I think as a team, no matter what the situation is, we have the same mindset no matter what,” Brunson said. “And regardless of how I’m feeling or someone else is feeling, we know what’s at stake, we know what we have to do and we’re going to figure it out.”

So far in the Pacers series, Brunson is averaging an astounding 32.0 points on 48.4 percent shooting from the field.
