Sports Analyst Drops 1 Caitlin Clark Plea To Critics After Tough Indiana Fever Debut
Grace Hollars/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK

After building so much hype for her WNBA debut, Caitlin Clark is now facing criticism for how much she struggled in her first professional game. This prompted Colin Cowherd to defend the Indiana Fever rookie from people criticizing her.

Before she made the jump to the WNBA, Clark made history by breaking Pete Maravich’s old record to become the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer. However, her final year as the Iowa Hawkeyes’ best player went down in disappointment after they lost to the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Nevertheless, Clark pushed through with her plan to go pro by going first in the 2024 WNBA Draft. The Indiana Fever selected her using the top pick in a class that boasted other notable rookies, such as Los Angeles Sparks’ Cameron Brink and Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese.

Even before she played her first actual WNBA game, Clark has been turning heads for a number of reasons. For starters, the former Iowa star inked several endorsement deals with Nike and Panini, to name a few, and turned down a massive payday with Ice Cube’s BIG 3 League. At the same time, she played a part in the league’s decision to give players chartered flights when traveling to their games.

Colin Cowherd Defends Caitlin Clark After Tough Indiana Fever Debut

Just recently, Clark played her first official game as a pro against the Connecticut Sun. This resulted in a performance not worthy of all the hype she generated during the offseason, leading to critics blasting her initial foray in the WNBA. This prompted Colin Cowherd to come to Clark’s defense in a video posted on his show’s official X account:

During that game, Clark scored 20 points on 33 percent shooting from the field. While she made three assists and two steals, the 10 turnovers the Fever star committed was the most in any WNBA debut ever.

Cowherd presents a good case to stand for Clark since this is just her first game and there’s a long way to go before her performance as a rookie is determined. In any case, the Fever star needs to get her act together if she wants to last long in the WNBA.
